Congratulations to Darcy Pierce and Tessa Ramsay who will both play their 50th games this weekend!
This week it’s our turn to celebrate big Darc on playing 50 games for the club. A great achievement and definitely one that didn’t come easy with a few twists along the way. Darc came down to the club as a young pup, and much like myself at that age he had a lot to learn about fitness and training standards. He is on the record saying the closest he ever got to Jono Blanch was when he double lapped him in the 2k time trial on the Lyons oval in his first summer preseason.
Darc has had to bide his time in the thirds as he matured both mentally and physically, showing glimpses of what he is fully capable of by kicking a few bags of 5. He is often his own worst enemy by his physicality and putting his head in the hole, experiencing multiple concussions which highlights his bravery but makes for a tough watch for the Pierce clan. This year, Darc has committed himself to his fitness, and it’s paid off with a consistent spot in the 2s. He’s become one of the team’s most improved players and is now a vital part of the side as he has taken over full time Ruck duties rarely losing hitouts. It has been great to see him grow each week into a crucial player for the 2s and he has definitely surpassed me as the footballer of the family…. at least I have the looks.
Congrats Darc on 50 games mate! I’m excited for what your next 50 looks like as we are only scratching the surface. Go well this week mate, everyone walks a bit taller when you’re out there with them.

Picture this… it’s 2020 draft season and Marcellin has just picked T. Ramsay. She has zero experience in footy, but all the height and lots of excitement. Lucky enough lockdown hits so she’s also given an 18month preseason to perfect her skills and show the VAFA world there’s a new ruck in town. Unfortunately 18 months wasn’t enough.
Although you had the longest preseason in existence, I’m so glad you stuck it out because you bring such a fun and positive vibe to this club I honestly can’t imagine you not here. I think I speak for everyone here when I say you are a friend to all of us. With that huge wingspan it’s no wonder you’re the best at taking someone under your wing and making anyone feel welcome. You are so loved and so valued as a member of this club, on and off the field.
Speaking of off the field, we have to mention your BOG performances at all our team social events. You know it’s a good night when big red Rambo is there. A real highlight would have to be the moment at one of our respectable sheags karaoke events where I asked you to be my maid of honour. What a memory and there was no one better suited for the role!
On the field you lead by example. Your efforts and dedication over the years to develop yourself as a player hasn’t gone unnoticed. Whether it’s organising to go for a kick with Boydy or some of the sheags, you’ve put in the work to become a reliable superstar ruckwoman. Even during the dreaded ACL injury era you worked harder than most to rehab and get yourself back on the dance floor, I mean field. I know that wasn’t easy either and I’m so proud of you! And look at you now.. you can kick!!
See didn’t I tell you that you’d have fun playing footy! Aren’t you glad I nagged you for 3 years to come play?! I sure am and I love that I’ve watched you become this irreplaceable asset to the team. Congrats on 50 games Rambo!!You’ve put in so much work and you deserve the biggest celebration. Now cue Avicii’s ‘I can be the one’ because it’s time to launch! Love you!!
Welcome to the 50 club!!
