Milestone Games – Saturday 19 July 2025

Congratulations to Angus Turner who plays his 50th game this weekend, as well as Michael Avramopolous who celebrates his 51st game after last weeks forfeit meant he was unable to play.

Angus Turner

Congratulations to Angus on reaching his 50th game for Marcellin this weekend. It has been a long journey to reach this point, having joined the club in 2021, but despite COVID interruptions and mid-season trips to Europe, he has finally made it after almost five full seasons.

Throughout his time at Marcellin, Gus has always played like a loyal hound. Thanks to his rugby background, he has never been afraid of winning a hard ball — a very rare trait for a full-time thirds player — and he is always ready to provide backup to his teammates when things get a bit physical. It has been a pleasure to watch his game grow over the years, from dour shutdown defender, to intercept marker, to the burst midfielder that he occasionally is now. In his 48th game, he added another string to his bow by kicking his first goal for the club and then followed it up with three goals in his 49th. True, some might not count those three goals given they came in a 14-a-side scratch match after Parkside showed up to the game with six players, but Parkside were happy to count it when they posted the match score on their socials, so we can count it too.

It has been great getting to know you over the years and I look forward to many more to come, both on and off the field (and maybe at work as well). All the best for your 50th — I’m sure you’ll live up to the standard set by the last few thirds milestone games. Let’s just hope Mazenod don’t forfeit as well and you actually get to play it.

Michael Avramopoulos

Big shoutout to Michael “Avro” on notching up his 50th game this week! It’s a huge milestone, not just for him but for the whole team.

It’s been a great ride since we first joined Marcellin, just wanting to play footy with some mates and have a bit of fun. Back then we were getting smashed most weeks… now we’re sitting on top of the ladder.

Originally not a midfielder, Avro’s stepped into the role with a change of position and a bit of inspiration from the iconic #36 Dane Swan. There are some striking similarities between the two, the beard, the grit, the ability to throw himself into every contest, do all the dirty work, and still sneak forward to slot a goal or two.

Since joining the club he’s picked up a few accolades, from Best & Fairest to Beer Pong Champ (though I’ll always say I carried him for that one). His commitment to the team is unquestionable, always showing up, injured or not, doing everything he can to help the team get over the line.

Can’t wait to run out alongside you for your 50th. You’ve well and truly earned it and I’ve got no doubt you’ll rise to the occasion.

Go well mate!
