Round 4 Milestone Games

Congratulations to Daniel McMahon who plays his 150th game this weekend and Luca Zanella who plays his 50th.

Daniel McMahon (D-Mac) announced himself early on, kicking a bag of 9 goals for the 2009 U/19’s whilst still in school. Too good for the U/19 competition, he quickly found himself as a permanent starter for our senior team in Premier A Grade. This is where he took VAFA Mark of the Year after climbing on Old Scotch full backs shoulders at Elsternwick Park (see the mark here).

D-Mac is a man who knows where the goals are. You’ll find our #25 crashing packs, taking strong overhead marks, out-muscling the opposition in one-on-ones and sending it through the big sticks from beyond the arc with ease.

These assets have seen D-Mac kick over 240 goals for the Eagles. He’s been Marcellin’s leading goal kicker in 2018 & 2019 (from only 10 games), as well as our second leading goal kicker in seasons 2016 and 2017. Not just a skilful footballer, but a well respected voice and passionate Marcellin person; D-Mac has been a strong leader over many seasons.

Our man has a bit of agro in him too, which we love. He’s the first to back up a teammate in a scuffle, won’t hold back on delivering some feedback to the umps and/or opposition from time to time and he’ll dirty up if you stuff up the pasta sauce on a Thursday night.

A Marcellin person through and through, D-Mac is a genuinely great bloke. He cares for each player at the club and makes an effort to get to know everyone involved with the MOCFC community… as well as being a staunch supporter of our long standing sponsor, The Harp.

Thank you for all your hard work, dedication and good times over the past 12 years. We’ve been lucky to have you and your family Peter, Charmaine and Rachel at the club. We look forward to giving a little bit back to you by getting it done on the weekend. No doubt nothing would make you happier than a victory over old rivals, Ivanhoe, washed down with a parma and pot to celebrate. Go well D-Mac!

Luca, or ‘Big Zee’ as he is more commonly known around the club has been a cult figure since he first arrived at the club back in 2016 as a schoolboy playing the Under 19s. Luca dominated in the ruck in his first two years as an Under 19 and was a key part of the team’s journey to the 2017 preliminary finals. The next year would see him make several appearances in the Seniors and also famously play games for all four men’s teams in just over a month. Luca has also been a journeyman outside of Marcellin, playing for PINTS football club in Darwin in early 2020, and more recently representing Italy in the Harmony Cup.

Big Zee has always been an extremely reliable player and what I like most about him as a footballer is his consistency – he rarely has a poor game, and you always know what you’re going to get from the big fella. In more recent years, Luca has worked really hard on his running and stamina, which has taken his game to another level as he finds the footy around the ground more than ever. Off the field, Luca is an outstanding clubman and is always up for a beer and a chat with everyone.

Can’t wait to run out with you for your 50th Big Zee, congratulations and go well.
