To all our members of the Marcellin Old Collegians Football Club community,
After almost 600 days, the 2021 season is but a few sleeps away
Saturday April 10 will finally see 4 Mens teams playing on the beautiful Marcellin ovals, and our 2 Womens teams playing on the recently upgraded Bulleen Park Ovals. On April 18 the Bald Eagles (all another year or two older & greyer) kick off their season as well
If 2020 taught us one thing it was resilience, and I must commend every registered player at our great club on the resilience they displayed since they were last able to play football for competition points way back in August 2019.
2021 is greeted with great anticipation for all the teams. We have over 30 new players representing our Women’s teams this season, with many listed on VFLW teams, and over 30 new Men players as well ranging from Under 19s to Seniors.
New coaches for all Men’s teams in Simon Abrahams, Thomas Black, Nicholas Hullick, Lucas Mallamace and Matthew Frost, have generated a great deal of energy and anticipation amongst the Men. Tony Franklin has been another great addition, as he has taken on coaching our Womens Reserves Team and has supported Luke Boyd tremendously through pre-season. I am very confident we have a great group of coaches that will be able to get the very best out of our playing groups to ensure 2021 is a successful year for the Mighty Eagles.
Season 2021 sees hopefully a ‘new dawn’ for the football club. In recent years our supporter base has dwindled down in numbers, and we really hope that with local football being back we will see Marcellin folk of all generations coming down to the College and at Bulleen Park to support us this year.
If you haven’t already joined up as either a Golden Eagles or General Club Member I encourage you to do so. We need your help in supporting our teams not just on the ground each week but financially as well, especially after the lost 2020 year.
The cancelled 2020 season was tough but our football club is tougher, and we all can’t wait for the season to start on Saturday.
Hope to see you at the footy.
Kind regards,
David Howe
President of the Marcellin Old Collegians Football Club.
