The Marcellin Old Collegians Football Club is happy to announce the additions of Matt Russell (Under 19s Coach), Dennet Merton (Senior Mens Assistant Coach), Anthony Pezzimenti (Senior Mens Assistant Coach) and Jason Cox (Strength and Conditioning Coach) to its coaching lineup for 2022.
Matt Russell
Matt joins us from the Beverly Hills Junior Football Club, where he has served as a coach for the last 5 seasons. He enjoyed success there, winning a Premiership in 2017. For his efforts, Matt also served as a coach for the YJFL Representative teams, as a Head Coach for the Under 13s in 2015 and as an Assistant Coach in 2020 (Under 13s) and 2021 (Under 14s).
With strong links to the current crop of Year 12s coming through to Under 19s next year, as well as a wealth of experience behind him, Matt will be a great addition in the development of the youth of our football club.
Dennet Merton
Dennet is a familiar face to many Marcellin supporters, as he put on the Maroon guernsey from 1990 to 1998 where he served as the Senior Captain in 1995 and 1996. Once his playing days finished, he took over the Under 19s coaching in 2000 and 2001.
From there, Dennet has developed a very impressive coaching resume. He served many years as a Senior Assistant Coach in the EFNL for Blackburn (2003), Nunawading (2004), Duncaster (2012-2017) and Doncaster East (2018), where he saw premiership success in Division 1 in 2015 and 2018. Most recently he was appointed the Senior Mens Head Coach at Donvale.
The club welcomes back Dennet after almost two decades away from the club, and believe that his experience and expertise will be very beneficial to Simon Abrahams and the Senior group.
Anthony Pezzimenti
Another familiar face returning, Anthony comes to the club after a decade of solid coaching experience.
Most notably Anthony served as the Senior Coach for the Manningham Cobras, before moving onto the Beverly Hills Junior Football Club where he was involved in both the Auskick and junior football program. Most recently he was an Assistant Coach with the Northern Knights.
Anthony will provide excellent support to Simon and Dennet, and will be a strong presence in the development of our young playing group.
Jason Cox
Jason joins us from Koo Wee Rup, with experience in personal training as well as strength and conditioning.
Jason is currently studying a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science at Deakin University, and has recently been involved with Cricket Victoria in a Physical Performance Internship gaining valuable experience which he will bring to the role.
We believe Jason will be a strong fit for our football department, and will continue to push our high performance department to new levels.
