The Marcellin Old Collegians Football Club is excited to announce the appointment of Matt Simpson as our Men’s Under 19 Head Coach for 2024. Matt will work closely with Bernie Dinneen, Men’s Senior Head Coach and the coaching group to provide the best possible environment for our young men to enjoy, develop and succeed in the VAFA competition.
Matt has a wealth of experience in coaching and playing sport, especially both football and cricket. He has been the Head Coach at North Eltham Cricket Club in the Diamond Valley Cricket Association for the last four years, having led the club as a player and a coach to it first ever Barclay Shield premiership (cricket equivalent of VAFA Men’s Premier A section). Matt played for Northcote in the Victoria Premier Cricket competition, also leading the lower grade teams to three premierships in his time there.
Matt spent several years at the Melbourne Cricket Club in the head office, mostly leading the sports sections. He is now forging a successful career as a leading teacher at Parade College in Bundoora, where he has coached football in all for over 10 years within the Sports High Performance program. Matt played many years of senior football for Old Paradians and Eltham. In all Matt has played in/coached 23 premierships throughout his sporting career.
President David Howe said “We are excited to have Matt join us, bringing his extensive skills, capability and experience in leading young men, to our club. We are most impressed by Matt as an individual and what he can bring to our football club, wishing him all the best in this key role. Matt is a passionate family man and we welcome Matt, Anita and their children Sebastian and Matilda to our club.”
Matt said “I am humbled to be appointed as the Men’s under 19 coach and given the opportunity to help this great community club strive to become a VAFA power again and importantly support the under 19 players to develop and thrive as we build now for the 2024 season and beyond.”
