Milestone Games – Saturday 1 June 2024

Congratulations to Lachy Rush who will line up for game 100 this weekend!

A big Congratulations on 100 Games, Rushy!

This is an outstanding achievement and a testament to your dedication and skill.

For those who don’t know Rushy or the Rush name, you haven’t been around the club long enough to appreciate his and his family’s impact.

Rushy started his career back in 2016 while still in Year 12, debuting for the Under 19s. Despite playing only a handful of games due to his commitments with Marcellin’s first XVIII in School Footy. Where he kicked the winning goal in the 2016 grand final against PEGS, a moment he has probably reminded you of often. After this so-called “miracle,” Rushy then went on to debut for the Seniors in the last round of the season and has not looked back since.

Known as the self-proclaimed Mr. Fix It, Rushy has played every position from Back Pocket to clearing out the 50. In recent years, he has settled up forward, consistently kicking multiple goals per game. In 2022, Rushy began the first three games in the backline before transitioning to the forwardline. He finished the year in career-best form, kicking 41 goals from only 15 games. He’ll be sure to mention he started the year in defense, missing out on even more goal opportunities. His outstanding performance earned him a spot in the Premier C Team of the Year.

While it pains me to admit it, Rushy is not just a fantastic player but an even better person off the field (though his opponents might disagree). He always makes time for everyone, regardless of who they are, and is an integral part of Marcellin’s off-field events.

Congratulations mate, on this massive achievement. It has been an immense privilege to play alongside you each week, watching you take on the best defenders and still manage to kick multiple goals, even at your height.

This week we get to celebrate the heart and soul of the Marcellin footy club and one of my great friends in his 100th game. I’ve been lucky enough to play alongside Rushy for almost all of these games, and after 7 years I still find myself getting into verbal altercations on a weekly basis defending a battle he most definitely started first with the opposition.

Rushy is the epitome of the type of person you want around your football community. Consistently giving of his time and effort to try and make it a better place. The relationships i have forged with people like rushy, both on and off the field, is a big reason as to why i continue to be involved with the club each year. I have always admired his ability to make everyone he comes into contact with feel included and noticed. Which is shown by how loved he is by all around the club.

His football abilities should not go unnoticed either. Highlighted by his VAFA Team of the Year nomination in 2022 (which i’m sure you’ve been told about) and winning us a grand final off his own boot in 2016 against PEGS. A highly skilled and smart footballer who wears his heart on his sleeve when he steps over the white line. If there was anyone at the club to kick a set shot to win the game, I would be praying it is in his hands.

Congratulations on 100 games for the club Rushy, a massive achievement of resilience and dedication which should be celebrated accordingly. Hopefully we can top it off with a win for you on the weekend, and then tell each other how great we played over a few cordials.
