Congratulations to Andrew Kay who will play his 100th this weekend against Old Carey in the last regular season game of 2023!
A young baby-faced Andrew Kay joined the footy club back in 2015 and burst on the scene quickly establishing himself as the best young forward in the comp, booting an impressive 36 goals in his debut year and being a key contributor to a team that would claim the minor premiership. This amazing season would earn him the nickname ‘Special’ given his freakish ability on the field.
His 2nd second season at the club was dramatically stopped short due to a wild Sweats Clayton incident which left Andy with a shattered jaw, but after facial reconstructive surgery the big Special was back bigger and better in 2017. He went on to amass a career high 50 goals for the year, leading the goal kicking for the club and again an integral piece to a side that would go on to win an elimination final.
Andy in 2018 would be named vice captain of the footy club which was a nod to his amazing leadership and the respect he had earner from the playing group. He claimed VAFA Big V honours also, meaning at just 22 years of age he had already built himself a pretty impressive resume. While some niggling injuries and the pandemic got in the way, it is very exciting that he will be running out for his 100th game for the club this weekend.
Andy it’s been an honour to be a part of your journey, from a young fella down at the Bullants, to watching you dominate on the Bray, you are someone I have always loved to run out on the field with and I know many other team mates along the way have felt the same. Aside from your ability on the field which can be seen above, you’re an absolute ripper of a person and at times a rather unique individual. Whether it be rolling around training in a Durag or being one of the only blokes to drink a Jimmy at the club for the last 20 years, you keep doing you my friend.
Congratulations also David & Michelle for raising such a fine young man and of course your lovely new bride Carlina for supporting Andy along the journey.
All the best for the weekend mate xx
