Congratulations to our own Michael Ellway who will line up for his 50th game this weekend in the Seniors against PEGS!
This weekend Michael Ellway plays his 50th game, I had the pleasure of playing with Michael all through school footy and then in our first year of under 19s.
Michael is one of the most consistent players you’ll ever come across, every week he’ll play his role and when gets the footy you know something good is going to happen. His foot skills are next to none and his ability to make the right decision each time is amazing.
This year Michael came back to the club after a few years away and has managed to join the exclusive group of players to play 3s reserves and seniors all in the same year.
I’ll always have one of my favourite memories of playing footy at Marcellin with Michael being the first year we played in under 19s, the Nest ball. This happened to fall on a special anniversary year for the club and they decided to have a 3 course sit down event, which for a bunch of 19 year olds we found ourselves a bit bored and restless. Although we managed to make the most of it using the free alcohol, I remember our table constantly be told to shut up as we drank and sat there. At one point Michael switched over to the red wines and from that point on, his night was only going in one direction. That direction was Michael ending up in a trolley outside the venue at about midnight completely off his head being pushed around.
A photo was taken and the following game Dilly had to take the reins as coach as Abe’s was unavailable that week. At our pregame rev up, he pulls out this printed photo of Michael Ellway in the trolley and uses it as a metaphor for the team to push each other over the line on the field. Everyone loved it and was so pumped up, we went on to beat Ormond that day by about 12 goals over at Ormond.
Congrats on 50 games Michael, keep playing the way you do, it’s a great watch for everyone there.
