Simon Abrahams becomes Life Member, Matt Getson Elevated to Legend Status
We were proud to announce at our recent Presentation Night the Marcellin Old Collegians Football Club has awarded Simon Abrahams with Life Membership and elevated Matt Getson to Legend status.
Simon first joined the club in 2005, where he served as a player and coach all the way to the end of the 2023 season.
In his football career Simon appeared in 162 games for the Eagles, highlighted by two Premierships including the Senior Mens B Grade flag in 2008. After he finished his playing career, Simon stepped into the role of our Under 19s Head Coach where he lead the team to consecutive Preliminary Finals in 2017 and 2018. In 2019 he joined our Senior Mens coaching panel as an Assistant Coach before becoming the Head Coach in 2020, in which he was outstanding in his leadership for our Senior Mens program through a turbulent first two seasons due to COVID restrictions. Simon finished up his time with the Eagles this year, as he announced at the end of the season that he would step down from the role after four years at the helm.
Matt has been a fantastic servant of the Marcellin Old Collegians Football Club for many years. As a player Matt played 254 games for the Eagles, in which he served as Senior Captain between 1989 and 1992, was a Seniors Best and Fairest in 1988 and 1994 as well as a Premiership player for the club in 1985. He also was selected as a State representative on three occasions to cap off a stellar career.
Matt first joined the Club committee in the mid-1980s, after which he stepped into the role as President between 1992 and 1994. Throughout his years off-field Matt has been a fantastic supporter of the club, willing to put his hand up for any cause and give back to the place he spent many years playing in. Matt, along with David Leavold, also established the Golden Eagles, a coterie group aimed at connecting past players, coaches and supporters of the Eagles together and celebrating in both the memories they had shared in previous years whilst also continuing to support the club. This fantastic group has grown stronger with each season, and we are continuing to see many past players joining up as Golden Eagles. More recently Matt has joined our Committee as a Golden Eagles representative in which he came on board in 2021.
We would like to congratulate both of these men for their achievement and thank them for their ongoing contribution to the Marcellin Old Collegians Football Club. Their dedication and service has been second to none, and we truly appreciate all they have put in to help continue to build our club. These achievements couldn’t have been bestowed on to more deserving people than these two.
